Alok Kumar is the Gabelli Asset Management Chair and a Professor of Finance at the Miami Herbert Business School. Previously, he was also an Associate Professor of Finance at the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas at Austin, and an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame. He was also a part-time Distinguished Research Professor of Finance at Warwick Business School in the U.K. and a part-time Professorial Research Fellow at Deakin University in Australia.

 

At the University of Miami, he has taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses in Investments, Behavioral Finance, Impact Investing, and Applications of AI and Machine Learning to Finance. He has also taught a Ph.D. seminar class in Behavioral Finance.

 

Professor Kumar received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur. He obtained an M.S. in Engineering Sciences (with an emphasis on Robotics and AI) and an M.E. in Engineering Management from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College. He also has an M.A. in Management (Finance) from Yale University and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University.

 

Professor Kumar's research interests lie at the intersection of Economics, Finance, and Psychology. He is an expert in the area of Behavioral Finance, and his work has appeared in top Finance, Accounting, Economics, and Management journals such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Review of Finance, Journal of Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, Management Science, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, and Review of Economics and Statistics. His research has also been covered in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Montreal Gazette, Forbes, and SmartMoney. Professor Kumar has served as a consultant for several firms, including the Commonfund, Postnieks Capital Management, Validea, and Bluecrest Capital.
